In an effort to diversify the offering at the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack and Casino, Eric Alvarez was hired to aggressively promote group event opportunities. “The Racetrack is an incredibly unique space for groups, parties and catering. I am charged up for taking my skills to some place other than a traditional resort and creating such a unique offering here at the Racetrack,” Alvarez said.
Alvarez was hired this April and brings over 12 years of experience in the hospitality industry. In the past, his primary responsibilities have been catering and conference planning at several Five Diamond resorts including the Four Season Dallas at Las Colinas and the Phoenician Resort at Scottsdale. Eric credits his mentor, Beni Vines at the Phoenician for developing his eye for details in the execution of large and small events and the essentials of customer service. Alvarez hopes to share this knowledge with the racetrack staff to make the Racetrack the single best location for groups in the Ruidoso area.
“I have found many people only think of the track for a weekend family trip. They don’t realize we can cater banquets for up to 250, provide meeting space in Billy’s with podiums and A/V, and be a fun (and inexpensive) way to hold a family reunion.” Alvarez said.
Plans to increase group meeting and tour bus business to the Ruidoso area are also underway.
Rachel Weber, Director of Marketing at the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack and Casino for the past three years has been instrumental in the development of the group business and is handing the reigns over to Alvarez. Weber resigned effective July 8 to pursue an alternative career. Her duties will not only be assumed by Alvarez, but other staff.
"I've truly enjoyed working with Ruidoso Downs Race Track and Casino. I have many friends at the track, and I am so grateful for the experience and the friendships I've developed. The race track is an important part of Ruidoso's history and charm, and I'm proud to have been a part of the organization,” Weber said.
