Prayer service for Richard H. Vega, 74, of Carrizozo was held Saturday, July 28 in Santa Rita’s Catholic Church in Carrizozo with the funeral mass following. Burial was at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery in Carrizozo.

Mr. Vega passed away Wednesday, July 25 in El Paso. He was born Oct. 9, 1937 in Nogal, N.M. and had lived in Lincoln County all of his life. Vega had served in the Army. He loved the outdoors, camping, horseback riding, hunting, playing his guitar and singing and he was a man with a sense of humor. He was retired with the Department of the Interior. He was a past member of the Carrizozo School Board, past Trustee for the Town of Carrizozo and a former member of the Mounted Patrol. He attended Santa Rita’s Catholic Church and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He married Flora Sanchez on May 31, 1958 in Hondo.

He is survived by his wife, Flora; two sons, Richard Vega Jr. and his wife Deborah of Las Cruces and Kenneth Vega and his wife Theresa of Carrizozo; two daughters, Debra Vega-Cowan and her husband Doug of Grenville, N.M. and Jaylen Fredericks and her husband, P.J. of Albuquerque; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
